The IAMTS is an international organization which serves mainstream and holistic practitioners as a Not-For-Profit corporation. Its mission is to promote cross-communication between healing professionals to address relating ideas, techniques, and methods to enhance each others knowledge. In December of 1998 The IAMTS organization was bought from its former owners by Arthur Leidecker of the Leidecker Institute. The theme of the IAMTS focused on serving all medical and complementary therapies. In addition, other categories have been added to meet the needs of those with an interest in this expanding field. New categories will be added to meet the growing demands of this rapidly expanding organization. The organization's intention is to support their members by providing needed services and tools. 2. What are medical and complementary therapies? One definition states that conventional medicine typically views health as an absence of disease. Most illnesses are considered to be caused by bacteria, viruses or a chemical imbalance in the body. Treatment can include, drugs, surgery, and radiation to name a few. Complementary medicine tends to view the body as a balance of systems that also includes the mental, emotional, and spiritual life of the patient. A lack of coherence or a disharmonious state can lead to stress and illness. Currently, practitioners in all fields are coming together as they recognize the importance of combining all modalities to best meet the needs of their patients. Conventional medicine includes Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Preventative Medicine, etc. Complimentary medicine includes Acupuncture, Ayurvedic Medicine, Therapeutic Massage, Reiki, Hypnotherapy, and Mind/Body Medicine, etc. 3. How do I join the IAMTS? There are provisions for complementary therapists, medical professionals, clergy, spiritual counselors, diagnostic technicians, related business and more. Included in these will be categories for Registered Therapists and Associate Members. IAMTS will not test members itself; credentials, testing, and/or licensing is the responsibility of that member and their professional regulatory board.
